According to a short, breaking report from The Patriot-News (Harrisburg, Pa.), the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has fielded at least 12 separate applications to build wastewater treatment plants to handle the large volume of fluid waste derived from hydro-fracturing wells at the state's portion of the Marcellus Shale deposit. The chemcial-laden fluids used in such operations have been under environmental scrutiny lately, and recent conclusions indicate a need for more-thorough, higher-capacity waste processing. The Patriot didn't mention the status of any applications, but it notes that Marcellus wastewater processing has become a new and evolving industry in the state. Read more here.
