Some folks on Anchorage's Hillside may have noticed Monday what looked like an eruption at Mount Redoubt, that moody volcano across Cook Inlet. In fact, it was just a steam plume, said Game McGimsey, a volcanologist at the Alaska Volcano Observatory. The meteorological conditions made for an impressive show, with one observer describing what looked like a small mushroom cloud. Redoubt's rumbled off and on for a year now. The last time it was in the news was in late December when a swarm of small earthquakes were reported near Redoubt's summit, prompting the AVO to briefly raise the volcano's alert level to yellow. The alert level Monday was green.
