According to The Associated Press (via the Boston Herald), Alaska elections officials still have 20,896 ballots to count, a total including all the outstanding absentee and questioned ballots. That number will likely fluctuate within the coming weeks, and election officials aren't saying what percentage of the outstanding votes were cast in the Republican primary, but one observer guessed that about two thirds were Republican votes. As the count continues, lawyers for both sides (including the general counsel from the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Palin family's personal attorney) are keeping a close eye on the process.
