49th Estate: The Fleischers' historic home
Thomas Levine |
Jun 21, 2010
Lanie and Hugh Fleischer live in a house built in 1946. With its many quirky features, such as French windows and built-in bookshelves, the house has helped meet the needs of three generations of residents. One of only three houses in the neighborhood when it was first built, its first owner, Ray Lockhead, built houses both in town and on Elmendorf Air Force Base. Books and art fill the house. Almost every room has a bookshelf and at least one piece of art. Friends of the Fleischers created many of the original pieces spread throughout the house.
