According to many sources this morning, a group of Alaskans serving time in a private Colorado prison caused a disturbance when their cell doors opened inexplicably. KTUU-TV reports that eight Alaska prisoners in a segregation unit refused to go back to their cells and started wrecking the common area and tried to barricade themselves in. The disturbance didn't spread to other areas of the prison, and no hostages were taken. A tactical response team responded and put the prisoners back in their cells. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that inmates set off a fire alarm, damaged sprinklers, and tried unsuccessfully to smash through a window leading out of the common area. A Fairbanks inmate called a Fairbanks woman during the chaos, and she heard a big commotion in the background. |
