According to the Calgary Herald, the city will host the first Global Clean Energy Congress and Exhibition from Nov. 1 to Nov. 3, 2011. Conference organizers hope to bring people together (about 4,000 are expected) to exchange ideas about applying clean and renewable energy technologies in ways that consumers can use, and city-owned utility Enmax has signed on as the first of hopefully six corporate sponsors for the event. Enmax president and chief executive Gary Holden said that this conference will differ from others, "I think the world is now at the point where we can really talk about applications. Up to this point, most of the renewable energy technology conferences have talked about the science and the economics and can it really happen, is solar power economic?" For it's part, Enmax has recently floated a plan to install micro-scale solar and wind power generators in homes, and 15,000 of its customers have expressed interest.
