Make the 33-year-old trans-Alaska pipeline system less susceptible to springing leaks and otherwise falling into disrepair -- that's the message from federal regulators, who announced their concerns in the wake of an investigation by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration after last month's shutdown, according to a report by the Anchorage Daily News. A spokeswoman for the Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. disputed some of the conclusions drawn from the probe, according to the article, which also cites a letter from the administration to Alyeska that said "multiple conditions exist on your pipeline facility that pose a pipeline integrity risk to public safety, property or the environment." |
