The partially eclipsed moon sets behind the Talkeetna Mountains on Thursday morning (9:53 am), December 31, 2009. According to SpaceWeather.com, blue moons occur once every 2.5 years, blue moons on New Year's Eve occur every 19 years and "[i]n the next 1000 years, Blue Moons on New Year's Eve will be eclipsed only 11 times (once every 91 years)."
Seems like the right way for the Aughts to shuffle off.
