A television filmmaker and producer is shooting a TV show on Bush pilots - starring Holy Rosary Church pastor and pilot Father Scott Garrett of Dillingham. After following Father Garrett's parish blog for six months, Wes Woodland (who works on the "Dr. Phil" show in Hollywood) and his partners proposed the idea to cable networks. With a go-ahead, Woodland followed and filmed the flying Alaskan priest as he recently made his rounds to the Catholic outposts that dot Alaska's Aleutian Islands. Father Garrett's harrowing adventures already have made for some exciting TV, according to the priest's blog. On the Oct. 17 trip, Father Garrett and Woodland flew from Dillingham to Clarks Point, then to Levelock and King Salmon and Naknek, "We hit a snow squall along the way," Father Garrett reported, "and the visibility went down to about two miles and we were at 700 feet." In Levelock, the crew took a four-wheeler to the home of the Bowden family, in whose kitchen Father Garrett celebrated Mass. Throughout the trip, Catholics shared their experiences of living in the remote villages of the Alaska Bush.
