Channel 11 reports on stolen Big Lake plane

Jul 21, 2010
A Piper Super Cub was stolen from the Big Lake airport recently. Channel 11's Natalie Travis (Go Cougars!) tracked the story down and found a few ways pilots can make sure their plane doesn't take off without them. 1. Use door locks. Even if you have an old plane, make sure there's at least some kind of lock on the doors. And Wednesday morning Dispatch photographer Stephen Nowers spotted a flier offering a $5,000 reward for a "complete" return of the aircraft. The owner of the plane, Don Laabs, is a 73-year-old Alaskan who rebuilt the plane after it wrecked in the early 1980s. Read more about Laabs here. And here's the latest on the Barefoot Bandit, and an earlier Outside Magazine story on the same subject.
