These three pics were taken when I flew my 03 American Champion Scout from Merrill Field in ANC down to Chitina Bay, south of Silver Salmon Creek and near the Augustine Volcano. On a good day when I can fly "direct", it's about a one hour flight at about 130 MPH. ![]() I land on the beach at low tide, ususally best during the super-low -3 or better tides. This beach and the one to the north, Tuxedni Bay, used to be FULL of planes during low tides. Now it's rare to see any other planes... The last picture was on my return home to Anchorage, flying along the beach northbound. Mt. Redoubt was very active then and the last shot shows the vent steaming, and the huge amount of land affected by the many ash eruptions. |
