Randy DeSoto is a man of many talents. Besides his role as spokesman for Joe Miller, who pulled off a huge upset against U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the Republican primary, DeSoto is a conservative writer and blogger with a book and a movie to his credit. In 2007 DeSoto published "We Hold These Truths," a 264-page footnoted book of American history. The book focuses on how wartime leaders in this country have appealed to two beliefs found in the Declaration of Independence: the belief that there is a providential God who governs over the affairs of this world, and the belief is that God has granted inalienable rights to all mankind. "There's a tendency in the modern era to think that everything is always changing and we have to adapt, but there are some truths that are timeless," DeSoto said. "Circumstances change but the nature of people and right and wrong - that's timeless." And this fall a movie that DeSoto wrote, "I Want Your Money," will be hitting theaters across the country, according to its website. The documentary film focuses on fiscal policy and interviews conservative leaders and economists like Newt Gingrich, Steve Forbes, and Andrew Breitbart as it "contrasts the two paths the United States can take using the words and actions of Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan." "I love the intersection of entertainment and politics," DeSoto said. "We live in a visual world, so ideas are best communicated with both words and images." In a clip from the trailer, a cartoon Barack Obama, sitting in the Oval Office, says "I'm redistributing the wealth. I learned in school that spreading the wealth is good for everyone." A cartoon Ronald Reagan walks across the room to sit on Obama's desk and replies, "Well, I learned from real life that it's not. In fact, there's a word for it. It's called theft." DeSoto attended the U.S. Military Academy with Miller. They were both political science majors, but got to know each other better while attending armor basic training together, DeSoto said.
