Did SarahPAC help elect NOW's president?

According to an analysis of public documents by the blog Palingates, former Gov. Palin's political action committee, SarahPAC, appears to have given over $12,000 to influence the June plenary election of the National Organization of Women. The money went from SarahPAC to "Glebe Inc.," which has the same address as Shelly Mandell, a Democrat and former Los Angeles president of NOW who made national news during the 2008 presidential election by publicly supporting McCain-Palin over Obama-Biden. During the NOW election campaign, accusations were made that "Sarah Palin's people" were throwing lots of weight behind current NOW President Terry O'Neill's candidacy. A political friendship between Palin and Mandell, who sit on such different sides of reproductive rights issues may seem odd, but the alliance appears to have arisen from a fight between two internal NOW factions created after Hillary Clinton lost her party's 2008 presidential nomination. Until now, Mandell has denied any connection to Sarah Palin or SarahPAC, but the public documents posted by Palingates show just the opposite. Read much more, here. |
