According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, with only one dissenting vote, the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly gave its approval for the Alaska Gasline Port Authority's plan to buy Fairbanks Natural Gas LLC for $55 million and begin trucking liquefied natural gas from the North Slope to Fairbanks. A measure to seek an independent appraisal of the company to be bought failed, as did a measure to bring the plan before voters. One assembly member said that she supported the plan because the estimated $250 million project will be funded by bonds, so there's no public money at risk. Read much more, here, and if you're inclined, read the News-Miner's Dermot Cole highlighting a reader's call for an appraisal of Fairbanks Natural Gas Company because if there isn't one, the question of whether or not the port authority got a good price for it will always be there. |
