The FEC took issue that we called it a "mistake" on the agency's part. Still, it sure seems misleading, or at least confusing.
The FEC said in its email, "When these types of committees register with the FEC, the name of a candidate must be listed on the Statement of Organization form. In this case, the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee listed Sarah Palin as the candidate. To create this committee, a "dummy page" must be created in which to link the candidate. If no reports or submitted forms appear beneath this entry on the FEC Web site, the individual identified has taken no action to become a candidate."
And so this "dummy page" continues to bounce around the Internet.
