According to APRN, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has denied an application to extend its principle permit for Yukon Pacific Co.'s proposed Anderson Bay liquefied natural gas export terminal, which would sit at the end of the proposed All Alaska Gasline running from the North Slope to Valdez. FERC said that the permit won't be extended because the environmental impact statements need to be updated and certain construction regulations have changed a great deal since the application was first granted. According to FERC's letter (.pdf), the initial permit was granted in 1995. Bill Walker, who currently seeks the Republican gubernatorial nomination has been involved in the project since its inception, and he told APRN that people involved in the project had been expecting FERC's extension denial for quite some time. Walker said, however, that it doesn't necessarily mean the death of the All Alaska line. He said that the state's earlier decision not to renew the right-of-way permit for a line to Valdez is more significant. Listen to much more, here. |
