TV By the Numbers reports that "Flying Wild Alaska," Discovery Channel's newest reality show -- and the latest in a long line of popular Alaska-themed programming -- has become the highest-rated debut of a show ever for the network. While some might wonder if the world is becoming over-saturated with Alaska-based television, the recent successes of "Sarah Palin's Alaska" on TLC and the currently-running "Gold Rush: Alaska" on Discovery doesn't seem to indicate that the general population is too tired of the Last Frontier in their living rooms. The back-to-back run of "Flying Wild Alaska" and "Gold Rush: Alaska" on Friday night attracted more than 6 million viewers put together, with 2.5 million of those tuning in to watch the new series about bush pilots working for Era Alaska. The achievement is similar to the recent accomplishment of "Sarah Palin's Alaska" snagging the highest-rated debut for a TLC show. More on the specifics of the numbers can be seen here, and in case you missed the first episode, Alaska Dispatch has taken the time to provide viewers with a lengthy recap on our "Bush Pilot" blog. |
