Getting personal on O'Reilly

Fox News Channel has posted a rush transcript of a portion of ex-Gov. Palin's interview with Bill O'Reilly covering topics more personal than "important issues of the day." Most of the transcript is pretty bland, but Palin talked at length about things Alaskans may be interested in. O'Reilly asked her, "So ... You actually go out and you shoot game and you put it in your refrigerator and you eat it later?" To which Palin responded, "I've been doing [that] all my life. It is part of that Alaskan culture. It's a healthy, active, outdoor lifestyle that we so enjoy up there." O'Reilly moved on to the next question before Palin could mention Alaska's high rate of obesity and Type-2 diabetes. Next, O'Reilly asked her if she watches movies, and Palin said she didn't have much time for them but that she saw one on pay-per-view recently, "The Proposal," starring Sandra Bullock. Any movie purporting to be about Alaska but which isn't filmed in Alaska (like that one) tends to take heat in The Great Land, but Palin said she loved it "because it integrated a lot of an Alaskan theme and environment in the movie, too." To wind up the segment, Palin and O'Reilly discussed vacations, including the aborted one in Maui, and Palin said the family's favorite vacation spot is "out in the middle of nowhere at our cabin in Petersville, which is 75 miles in Alaska." Orienteering flub aside, at least she got that right. Read more of the transcript, here, but it's rush, so it might change over time. While you're at it, though, listen to an .mp3 sample of "Petersville" by Alaska's favorite Southcentral alt-rockers, The Whipsaws. |
