Gov hopeful Walker cites new survey, knocks Parnell

Results of a survey just released by gubernatorial hopeful Bill Walker show a gas pipeline is an absolute must-have for voters this year, and there's not a lot of faith that a line proposed by TransCanada under the state's AGIA process will be built. The press release with the survey results (.doc) includes a jab at Gov. Sean Parnell, who enjoys a high approval rating among voters, according to other surveys. Parnell told Alaska Dispatch in a recent interview that he is sticking by the Alaska Pipeline Project that TransCanada is taking to producers in an open season this year, but is also pursuing in-state natural gas pipeline plans to make sure Alaskans' bases are covered. Walker campaign manager Taylor Bickford says the competition is sticking with "the same old politics as usual," borrowing a line made popular by former Gov. Sarah Palin, both at home and on the national campaign trail. Paid for by Walker's campaign, the survey was conducted by Craciun Research. Company founder Jean Craciun signed on as a strategic adviser to the Walker campaign in January. |
