Lawmakers foresee grim gas-line open seasons

According to KTVA, lawmakers are pessimistic about next year's open seasons to secure committments for the competing Denali and Trans Canada gas pipeline projects. At issue are fiscal terms and taxes, certain conditions that the producers require, which, acccording to Rep. Jay Ramras, the state won't be in a position to meet next summer. The two pipeline projects are still talking with prosepective shippers, and preparations seem to be going forward despite, Ramras says, the producers' doubts about successful open seasons. However, it's important to keep in mind that no one actually knows how the open seasons will turn out. Read more here. We think it's also important to note that the story mentions that Ramras and Rep. John Harris have been giving presentations all around the Railbelt about an all-Alaska gas line. The all-Alaska line idea is starting to look better and better to us due to recent changes in the market and booming shale gas projects across North America. We're not economists or anything, but we think our best market is in Asia, not the Eastern US, and it's easier to ship LNG to South Korea from Valdez than from Chicago.
