Levi Johnston: America's least popular politician

It's come to this, Alaska: Public Policy Polling has actually questioned voters about the man who wants to be Wasilla's next mayor -- ex-ex-ex-future Palin-in-law Levi Johnston. And the numbers don't look good for the Playgirl poster boy. A whopping 72 percent of Alaska voters surveyed (PDF) said they have an unfavorable opinion of the father of Sarah Palin's grandson, while a scant 6 percent reported liking the former high school hockey player. According to the polling group's blog, that makes Levi "the most unpopular person PPP has polled in any state." Ever. "It's hard to muster a favorability rating lower than 6 (percent) -- that's about where the average person off the street we polled on a lark would be -- so (Johnston) may hold this dubious distinction for a long time," the PPP blog continued. We're not sure whether we're more surprised at the overwhelming anti-Levi sentiment or the fact that a national pollster is really gathering data on a 20-year-old aspiring actor who may or may not run for mayor in a town most Americans had never heard of two years ago. Incidentally, in the same poll, 37 percent of respondents said they had a favorable opinion of Johnston's former future mother-in-law, while 55 percent fell into the "unfavorable" category. (In case you were wondering, 7 percent of Alaskans still aren't sure how they feel about the former governor.) The fun doesn't stop there, though; PPP also asked respondents whether they could see Russia from their houses. No, seriously. Eleven percent said yes. Sounds suspect, but, as one intrepid Dispatch reporter pointed out, it all depends on where the Alaskans surveyed live. On a clear day, you can see Siberia from Wales, a tiny Inupiat community on the western tip of Alaska's Seward Peninsula. |
