LL Cool J has beef with Fox over Palin show

According to The Washington Post's policy and politics blog,"44," on Tuesday night LL Cool J (aka James Todd Smith) took issue with a Fox News Channel advertisement promoting ex-Gov. Sarah Palin's new Fox vehicle called "Real American Lives," which apparently is some sort of video mix-tape. The advertisement seemed to imply that "Ladies Love Cool James" would be a guest on Palin's show when it debuted, but he never sat for an interview with her. Mr. Smith, known as one of the greatest M.C.'s in rap history, said that Fox's re-tasking of a 2008 interview he gave to another person was "misrepresenting" him. In response, Fox News cut the contested segment from the promo and the show's debut, and a spokesperson for the company got really catty: "'Real American Stories' features uplifting tales about overcoming adversity and we believe Mr. Smith's interview fit that criteria. However, as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career." Read more from the Post and watch the promo ad, here, and read a slightly different report from The New York Times, here. The last one holds a link to the entire Fox News press release. Also, according to HitFix, country singer Toby Keith finds himself in the same situation: Scheduled to appear on Palin's show via old, unrelated interview, but unaware. Read more, here. |
