Mainstream media don't 'hate' Sarah

According to a long, well-considered editorial at Politico, Jim VandeHei and Jonathan Martin lay out the reasons why it's wrong for anyone (especially a mainstream media outlet) to claim that mainstream media outlets "hate" Sarah Palin. Foremost among those reasons is that she is a huge draw for audiences. The authors write that the relationship she and the media have "Is a tangled, symbiotic affair — built on mutual dependency and mutual enabling." The authors speculate a little on why she attracts so much interest -- despite poll numbers indicating that Americans generally don't want her in high office with her finger on The Button. Afterward, the editorial turns to the question of how the press is complicit in creating a media profile so out of proportion with Palin's actual influence in Republican circles.
