New Palin defense fund shares address with SarahPAC

According to Internet registration information posted by the watchdogs at Palingates, Sarah Palin's new legal defense fund, appropriately called "The Sarah Palin Legal Defense Fund" (the replacement for "Alaska Fund Trust," which an investigator for the Alaska Personnel Board declared illegal this week), shares a mailing address with SarahPAC, the former governor's political action committee. The new legal fund claims not to be connected with SarahPAC or any other entities, and lists an Anchorage P.O. Box as its public contact address. But its internet registration address is identical to the public contact address for SarahPAC. No one yet knows who's behind the new defense fund, but the initials on the Internet registration are "TC," which Palingates thinks might stand for "Tim Crawford," the treasurer for SarahPAC and an expert in handling soft money. The post also notes a detail that many have overlooked: The State of Alaska offered to pay up to $100,000 of Palin's legal fees incurred while defending against various ethics complaints, but Palin declined. And although it has been claimed that she did not participate in the creation of the illegal fund, the investigator's report says that she did. Palingates also reiterates what many Alaskans already know: A large number of the ethics complaints against Palin have been filed by Republicans, not "left-wing activists" as the fundraising materials for the new defense fund allege.
