One day after his father's funeral, the youngest survivor of the plane crash near Dillingham that killed former Sen. Ted Stevens and four others, will receive a little TLC from the NFL, according to the news site TBD.com.
Willy Phillips, 13, is himself a football player, following in the footsteps of three older brothers -- all of whom are Division I college players - and his dad, who also loved and played the sport. The elder Phillips, 56, was a lobbyist and laywer and former Stevens staffer, and the program at his funeral Friday included a list of upcoming games he had planned to attend. At the funeral, which took place in Maryland, Willy's older brothers paid tribute to their Dad and younger brother alike, calling them both heroes. "Willy, you are also my hero," Colter (Phillips) said. "The way you acted under the circumstances was truly phenomenal, and Dad is truly proud of you up in heaven." Media reports indicate Phillips, who suffered a broken ankle, helped with the more seriously injured throughout the night while the group waited for additional help to arrive. |
