Nome's Marjorie Tahbone named 'Miss Indian World'

Alaska Dispatch

According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Nome's Marjorie Tahbone, a University of Alaska Fairbanks student, has been named "Miss Indian World." The award is given out each year at the annual Gathering of Nations. Tahbone, 22, of Inupiaq and Kiowa heritage, said she was a little surprised to win because though she "wowed" the crowd with her demonstration of Alaska Native game events, she didn't think it would be enough. But in the end, the judges chose the most rounded contestant, and she had the highest average of scores. Tahbone's next year will be busy with trips across the country as an ambassador for cultural awareness and positivity.
