The NYT's out to get Palin?

Below is an interesting paragraph from Frank Rich's column in the New York Times today. Passages like this, I think, really don't do a lot to disabuse the masses that the main-stream media is out to get Palin: "But there's a steady unnerving undertone to Palin's utterances, a consistent message of hubristic self-confidence and hyper-ambition. She wants to be president, she thinks she can be president, she thinks she will be president. And perhaps soon. She often sounds like someone who sees herself as half-a-heartbeat away from the presidency." What? She, unique among all the candidates, is not allowed "hubristic self- confidence and hyper-ambition." Is it so uncommon that a veep wants and perhaps believes they can be president? Isn't that, in fact, a prerequisite for the job? Is it any wonder that the New York Times gets booed at Republican rallies If Palin's greatest sin is that she doesn't understand how unqualified she is, certainly Rich's greatest sin is not understanding how elitist, and dare I say sexist, he sounds. |
