Object Runway: Battle of wearable art returns to Anchorage (+VIDEO)

Alaska Dispatch

Fashion and art lovers in Anchorage can head to Bear Tooth theatre pub on Jan. 24 to see models walk the runway in whimsical outfits created with maximum creativity in mind.

Last year, models showed off outfits designed from rope, window blinds, birch branches, copper wire, and bicycle parts, among other eclectic materials. This year, Object Runway promises 70 designers who will face off in the “uniquely judged fashion show” for the number one spot.

The event’s name is a play on Project Runway, a reality tv show where designers battle for a chance to show at New York Fashion week, among other prizes. Object Runway was created to see “what would happen if you turned [the show] into an art concept,” one organizer says in a 2012 KSKA video.

Although initially unsure how many people would turn up for the show, organizers found themselves turning people away at the doors during their first year. Now, Object Runway is in its fourth year. The trailer promises an event of “unleashed creativity” and “inspired moments.”

Tickets will be available at Bear Tooth on Jan. 7.
