Oscar gift grab reports disputed

According to The Los Angeles Times' "Ministry of Gossip" blog, a press release from The Silver Spoon, the organization behind the Red Cross benefit Oscar gift suite that Sarah Palin attended recently, demands a retraction of recent reports of unseemly behavior on Palin and her entourage's part. "The stories currently circulating about Governor Palin’s attendance at our event are total fabrications," the statement reads (we assume the stories are not total fabrications, though; no one is disputing Palin's attendance or her generous Red Cross donations). The statement's author claims to have personally accompanied Palin around the gift event and says that the former governor was respectful and didn't ask for any of the gifts she was given. "We would like an immediate retraction and an apology to The Silver Spoon, its vendors, and especially to Governor Sarah Palin," the statement reads. Read more from the Ministry of Gossip here. It's noteworthy that the link to the press release .pdf file in all of the reports we've read about this call for an apology so far, including the one above, leads readers not to a site or press page from The Silver Spoons, but to a Conservatives4Palin.com document-share via Google Groups. Because C4P is known for its unwavering support of Palin, we are just as concerned about the veracity of this press release as we were about some of the claims made by anonymous gift suite vendors in the original reports. Fairness is tricky, and the truth of the matter probably lies somewhere in between. And incidentally, we're wondering if this means that C4P is filling in while the search for Meghan Stapleton's replacement continues. |
