Our Alaska: Dancing in the streets, Anchorage-style
Alaska Dispatch |
Nov 16, 2010
It's a familiar sight to commuters in the Southcentral Alaska city of Anchorage, home to half the state's population: the dancing man on15th Avenue. Known to Anchorage residents as "the iPod guy" or "the dancing guy," he does, in fact, have a real name. Andrew Kerosky, 24, has been dancing near the intersection of 15th and Ingra Street just about every Friday afternoon since he found himself there waiting for a ride after his car broke down in February 2006, plugged in his iPod and started dancing to pass the time. Since then he's gained some notoriety -- been written up in the local paper, danced for fans of the band Puddle of Mudd before a 2009 performance in Anchorage -- but come Friday afternoon, rain, shine or snow, there he is at his spot near the Shell station, dancing to his own private soundtrack as the commuters come and go.
