The Coast Guard says it received a call about 12:20 a.m. from Sand Point police reporting debris in the water. Sand Point is an island on the south side of the Alaska Peninsula, about 550 miles southwest of Anchorage. The Anchorage Daily News reported that a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter and C-130 plane from Kodiak are involved in the search, and that the Coast Guard asked any boats in the area to assist as well. |
