Round up: Palin testifies in Tenn. e-mail trial

According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, former Gov. Sarah Palin appeared at ease and smiled often through her time on the witness stand Friday in the trial of David Kernell, the now-22-year-old accused of illegally accessing Palin's Yahoo e-mail account during her 2008 vice-presidential campaign. Palin testified that she was in a Michigan hotel room, "getting some speech writing and at the same time watching the news" when she learned her Yahoo e-mail account had been breached. "I saw a picture of my kids on the television screen," she testified. Palin also said that the Yahoo account was the main way she was keeping in touch with family and friends during the campaign, and that the hassle over the security lapse "caused a huge disruption in the campaign." Read more from the Commercial Appeal, here. ABC News has a longer story on Sarah's testimony, featuring more background than other reports we've read today, here. The Associated Press report is worth a read (via the Atlanta Journal Constitution). And, perhaps most titlilating, the Knoxville Metro Pulse staff blog passes along one eyewitness's "superficial" report: Todd was "rockin' the hair gel," and Sarah wore 5- or 6-inch heels, "A LOT" of make-up, and left the courtroom along with "an entourage of 25 people. Unfortunately, the report is suspicious because the Pulse calls Alaska the "least populated" state (as of the last census, that's Wyoming), but it's still entertaining. If you're interested in a short tidbit about Sarah's testimony, and more about her daughter Bristol's testimony on Thursday, check out Entertainment Tonight's brief coverage. Bristol said that when her cell phone number was released to the public, she received numerous unwanted phone calls, including a rather frightening one. ET says her fright was "heightened by the fact that the Palin home is isolated. 'We live in the middle of nowhere in Alaska', (Bristol) told the court. 'In the middle of the woods'." We know snitches get stitches and all, but it's worth noting that the Palins' Wasilla home is anything but isolated. |
