Rural AK 'reeling' over alternative energy vetoes

According to Alaska Newspapers Inc. (via The Arctic Sounder), Gov. Parnell's veto of $25 million of the $50 million legislators approved in the state budget for renewable and alternative energy projects came as a great surprise to many in rural Alaska. Executives of the groups Renewable Energy Alaska Project and the Alaska Village Electric Cooperative say they were surprised, that they had spoken to the Parnell administration and were assured that the money would be left in place. The veto means that 47 projects being planned around the state will be delayed for this year unless other funding can be found. Read much, much more, here. |
