The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that Sirius XM satellite radio has been granted permission by the FCC to install ground-based repeaters in Alaska, effectively bringing the service to the state. The decision follows years of dispute from Alaska broadcasters, who have claimed that satellite radio service in the state would harm local radio, and has encouraged Sirius XM to pursue purchasing AM or FM radio stations within Alaska. Sirius offers more than 100 channels featuring music, talk radio, and sports. It is also the home of notorious "shock jock" Howard Stern. Read much more, at the News-Miner.
