Fred Abraham rode a blue Yamaha snowmachine out of the Western Alaska town of Kasigluk on Saturday night. When he didn't turn up in Hooper Bay as planned he was reported missing. The search for Abraham included airplanes from Bethel and ground teams from nearby villages. But when search teams finally found the 51-year-old on Tuesday, troopers say also found his spirited cargo: 28 bottles of R&R whiskey. Abraham was traveling between the hub city of Bethel (where alcohol is legal) and Hooper Bay (where it is not). In dry communities like Hooper Bay, a bottle of whiskey can fetch $150. "We have yet to talk to him, but it's something we will question him about," said Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Beth Ipsen. Abraham boasts an impressive rap sheet, with charges ranging from sexual assault to not wearing his seat belt. When Abraham was found he was walking away from the snowmachine and the booze. He was taken to Newtok, where he was reportedly in good condition. |
