Teklanika River claims backpacker on Stampede Trail

According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, a Swiss backpacker was drowned in the Teklanika River where it intersects the Stampede Trail outside of Healy, a few miles from the abandoned bus where Chris McCandless starved to death. The woman's hiking partner says that in order to cross the melt-swollen river, they tied themselves to a rope that had been stretched across the river before their arrival. The woman's companion also denies that they were traveling to the McCandless bus. Read much, much more, here. |
