Three villages get money to build new VPSO housing

According to Alaska Newspapers Inc. (via The Tundra Drums), Governor Sean Parnell's office announces that Igiugig, Akiak, and Sleetmute will receive grants and low-interest loans to construct new housing for Village Public Safety Officers as part of an effort to combat domestic and sexual violence in rural communities. Sleetmute will receive funding for three new housing units, the other two will receive enough for one each. "For Alaskans to be safe requires a meaningful law enforcement presence in rural Alaska," Parnell said. "Providing housing is a key to attracting and retaining VPSOs who will make a difference in our communities." are the villages chosen to recieve this round of funding.
