UAF chancellor warns of cuts, tuition hikes

According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, University of Alaska Fairbanks Chancellor Brian Rogers explained Wednesday that UAF is facing a $5.5 million budget crunch. The shortfall comes as the state begins to encourage the university system to be more self-sufficient, and it will result in a set of budget proposals in coming weeks. In addition to discussing possible cuts, Rogers told the forum that tuition for undergraduate classes could rise as much as 10 percent starting in fall 2011, and as much as 12 percent the following year. Currently, the plan is still up in the air, and Rogers said he plans to hold a few more such forums to gather further input. Read much more, here. |
