Woman who beat Sarah for Miss Alaska is running for office

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Maryline Blackburn will soon declare her Democratic candidacy for the Georgia House. So what, right? Well, Blackburn has been living in the Peach State for the past 24 years, but in 1984, she won the Miss Alaska crown — the first African-American to do so — ahead of third-place finisher and Miss Congeniality award-winner, Sarah Heath Palin. Blackburn will be running against a Republican incumbent, Rep. Rich Golick, and reportedly is "a happy development for Democrats" because of her district's shifting demographics. Read more, here. |
