According to The Associated Press (via Bloomberg's Businessweek), Mike Henry of Palmer, who works as an Anchorage School District administrator, was so tired of trying and failing to milk one of his goats by hand that he drove to town and bought the parts for what would eventually become "The Henry Milker," an automatic goat milking system. His first effort worked, so he refined the design and built another. He listed the first one on eBay for $45 about a year ago. It sold quickly, so he put together another and sold that one too. He sold 12 that way, but thought there may be an untapped market for his gadget. After taking out an ad at a goat-specific Web site, his total sales jumped to 600 and he has customers around the globe. Read much more, here. |
