According to a Washington Post political blog, The Fix, Sarah Palin's endorsement of Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in a Facebook note is proof that she puts principles above politics. Hoffman is running in a special election to fill a U.S. House seat vacated by an appointment. Palin joins Fred Thompson (Tenn.) and Dick Armey (Texas) in endorsing Hoffman over the Republican candidate, Dede Scozzafava. Scozzafava has been endorsed by, among others, Newt Gingrich (Ga.) and Republican Study Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling. An L.A. Times political blog, Top of the Ticket, notes that the split endorsements may actually cause a Democrat to win the seat in a normally GOP district, and both note that this election might be a preview of others, in 2012 particularly. Read more from the Post, here, and from the Times, here. For a good laugh, and a local's perspective on that district's race, read this Huffington Post entry, which details Hoffman's other backers and concludes that Hoffman is a Republican who turned to the American Taliban for help when he didn't get the GOP nomination.
