about AlaskaDispatch.com is a work in progress published by Anchorage-based writers Amanda Coyne and Tony Hopfinger. They launched the online magazine on Aug. 13, 2008, because both were tired of kvetching about Alaska stories going uncovered and Alaska voices going unheard. Amanda Coyne teaches writing at Alaska Pacific University, free-lances for magazines, and blogs for HuffingtonPost.com. She was a writer and editor at the Anchorage Press from 2001 to 2005. She co-authored Alaska Then and Now in 2007, and her stories have appeared over the years in Harper’s, Newsweek, The Guardian, The New York Times, Bust, Alaska Magazine and other publications. Tony Hopfinger is a free-lance writer and correspondent for Bloomberg News and Newsweek. Between 1996 and 2005, he was a reporter and editor at newspapers in Idaho, California and Alaska, including the Anchorage Daily News and Anchorage Press. His work has appeared in The Walrus, Christian Science Monitor, Alaska Magazine, Seattle Weekly, Seattle Times, New York Daily News, Rock & Ice and other publications. |
