Jobs at Alaska DispatchPosted 3/20/12 Wanted: Experienced Alaska reporters to join the staff of AlaskaDispatch.com. We're searching for reporters. We need writers with voice and reporting chops, who read widely, who can bring a global view to local coverage -- and, just as importantly, who understand how to optimize those skills for an online audience, using multimedia, blogging, analysis and SEO techniques. We’re a startup. That means, among other things, we ask for long hours, flexibility, and an ability to advance our vision -- demands for which you’ll be compensated with a competitive salary, health insurance and other benefits. Ongoing Alaska Dispatch also has an opening for a Web developer/Project Manager. This is a critical position and requires experience with Drupal, as well as strong project management skills. We have a number of Web development/server contractors. Part of this position is coordinating with the contractors, as well as working with Dispatch staff for in-house development for the editorial and advertising departments. Most important is a desire to help us engage our audience and streamline the integration of our original content. The ideal Web Development candidate will have experience in Drupal 6, especially using views, cross-platform theme development (css, php, html, jquery) and working in subversion as part of a development team. You will be expected to translate vendor documentation into actionable steps to interact with content aggregators such as newsletter suppliers, video streaming hosts and search engines. Integrating externally hosted multimedia to enhance the reader's experience will require that you are familiar with various image and video sharing sites, as well as rss2.0 and a willingness to stay up to date on the latest 3rd party content providers. E-mail a resume, your best 5 clips (not required for Web developer, obviously), references, and a letter telling us why you want to work for Alaska Dispatch at editor@alaskadispatch.com. Sorry to say we won’t be able to get back to everyone, but we will respond in a timely manner to our top candidates. No phone calls, please.
