What cohousing does for a community
Kathryn McCamant, a licensed architect, will share her perspective on the benefits of living in a neighborhood where residents know one another.
McCamant has designed, and/or developed more than 50 cohousing neighborhoods across the United States and Canada.
Cohousing is designed to encourage residents to get to know each other, so common amenities include a common house, workshop, gardens and more. Residents enjoy the privacy of full-featured homes and a sense of community outside their front doors.
Author of "Creating Cohousing: Building Sustainable Communities," McCamant and her husband brought cohousing to North America from Denmark in 1987. They have been residents of cohousing in California for 20 years.
McCamant is a consultant for Ravens' Roost Cohousing, a Anchorage group.
