Bob Poe campaign photo

Last week we mentioned a new campaign photograph that showed Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Ethan Berkowitz looking windblown in a Carhartt jacket. Now one of his competitors, Bob Poe, has upped the ante.

An e-mail update to supporters issued today by the Poe campaign features Poe kneeling in front of a mountainous backdrop, his arm flung around Ben, one of the pair of huskies who patrol the Poe homestead in downtown Anchorage. (In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that I'm well-acquainted with Poe's dogs; I lived next door to them for two years. They're nice dogs. The other is named Jerry.) Poe's photograph is as casually outdoorsy as Berkowitz's was comfortably rugged.

Looks like the "who's Alaskan now?" gauntlet has been thrown down. Last week, Ethan in Carhartts. This week, Bob with his sled dog. Next week, Sen. Hollis French astride a snowmachine while stirring mooseburger chili or scaling an ice face with an eagle soaring in the background? We can only hope.
